As one of the largest providers of training to the civil nuclear sector in the UK, Gen2 work closely with employers and other partners to develop new skills and qualifications for those joining the industry, as well as re-skilling of the present workforce. Gen’s portfolio includes engineering apprenticeships, further and higher education programmes and a wide range of short, specialist courses in key topics. The company currently employs over 160 staff operating from 6 locations across Cumbria, with state of the art training centres based in the North, South and West of the county.
Gen2 have been rated Grade 1 (Outstanding) by OFSTED and were the first education and training provider in the UK to be awarded the Training Quality Standard (TQS) with excellence in Nuclear and Engineering. TQS is one of the highest training accolades possible and is an award which recognises Gen2’s outstanding work with employers.
As a response to employer demand for higher-level accredited and customised educational programmes, the Gen2 commenced delivery of higher education programmes in 2007 and now delivers Foundation Degrees, BEng(Hons) and Postgraduate Certificates, all contextualised for the nuclear industry with academic standards ensured through validation by our partner universities. To assist in embedding a strong safety culture, Gen2 are accredited as a NEBOSH, CIEH and IOSH training provider and provide a range of commercial short courses aimed at those with responsibility for safety, including radiation protection. Accordingly our courses are fit-for-purpose in preparing people for posts in this highly-regulated safety-critical industry.
